If you find that your brake lights are staying on, don't immediately assume it is the switch that's bad. It's very difficult to reach the electrical connector on that switch, and it may not be the problem. First check the small plastic plug at the top of the brake pedal which pushes the plunger on the brake light switch. After lots of disassembly, being upside down under the pedals and getting the switch out to test it, It turned out the only problem was that piece of rubber which pushes the plunger. It had deteriorated, broken and fallen out. Dorman sells it, so you can get it from all the major parts dealers.
