A/C not cold enough

Postby dj_gallito83 » June 9th, 2008 08:02 PM

its hot like a mutherfuker! i need my A/C badly. The compressor clicks in fine and the lines get cold. the air isnt hot hot, but i know its supposed to be colder. I re-did my AC at my job and nothing seems to be working. edwin and me tryed to empty it a lil and it got colder, but not much. still not happy though, lol... everyone is telling me is the evapotator that might be bad. i know its underneath the glove box, but i still dont see it. can anyone show me by picture or diagram?

http://slhondaparts.com/browse.asp?Model=ACCORD&Year=1993&TrimLevel=WGN+EX&TransLevel=4ATKA&Section=H&Category=B++59++%7CA%2FC+++++COOLING+UNIT&Doors=5&Emissions=KA&PartCatalogId=13SM50&ViewParts=true

#8 is your evaporator (this is a 4th gen but the 5th gen is very similar, I just forgot what you have). If you remove the glove box you will see the assembly.

It's just the core (like your radiator). You would have the rest of the parts around it already on the old one.

Make sure it isn't just that the heater control isn't shutting off all the hot water to the passenger cabin. A lot of older Accords have this problem and its usually easy to fix. The temperature control on the dash is connected through a cable to a shut-off valve between the engine and the firewall, towards the passenger side. If the cable has slipped a little, the valve won't shut off all the way and you'll always have hot air in the cabin. The 4th and 5th gen air conditioners weren't very powerful, so it doesn't take a lot of hot air to overwhelm the A/C system.

I'd think twice before I took the car back to the mechanic who suggested it was the dryer. Any competent mechanic should know to first check the heater valve. Heck, I know this and I'm far from a mechanic.

the heater valve is connected to your control knob on the dash. whenever you put it in hot and try to put it back to the cold, it doesnt shut all the way. so you have to give it a lil help

tru i did the same thing with the valve under the intake and my ac blows mad cold but now i think my expansion valve is trippin cuz it freezes up every once in a while.
Enjoy it while it lasts
