What are the Normal levels for the Temp Gauge?

Postby frubit » August 26th, 2010 06:52 PM

In cool weather and around town driving my guage doesn't move past about 1/4. However on long climbs in the heat, I've let the guage get to 3/4 before turning on the heater. Should the gauge ever get to 3/4? On flat terrain, in 90 degree heat, with the A/C on, and accelarating from traffic lights, the gauge will also get to 3/4 or above. Thanks.

It should not ever reach 3/4 way, check your thermostat or your fan.

My 5th gen never gets above a 1/3. I used to have a problem with the 4th and it would go all the way down to cold while driving in 40 degree weather. Replace the thermostat and no problem since.

After 4 different Accords, the normal position for the temp guage with a 195 degree thermostat is just barely under half scale. It should STAY in that range for all but the most extreme temps - 100+ and below say 20. Also, always use the factory temp thermostat for the best mpg unless you are in desert heat all the time or a boosted motor. I actually lost 10% mpg going with a 180 deg thermostat.
